MINUTES
Open Space Committee September 27, 2006 / 7:30 pm
Present: Judy Brainerd, Glen Collins, Laura Freeman, Sue Horton and Dave Read
Approval of Meeting Minutes
MOTION: Dave moved and Glen seconded to approve the August 23, 2006 meeting minutes.
APPROVED: unanimously.
Land Acquisition:
Harris – Sheila has talked to the Harris Family. They are still deciding what to do. Judy expressed to Sheila that the beach property or some property adjoining the abutting conservation land would be favorable. Judy has not heard anything since. Sheila said she would keep Judy posted. Judy will call Sheila and see what is going on.
Priority Parcels – Katelyn was going to assemble a list of the available vacant properties with the Town Planner’s help. Judy will go to Mary Elizabeth and see if she can help us. The Harris property will be at or near the top of the list.
Open Space Management:
Wiley Park Bridge Progress
Joe Bianchi has a new official contract with the Town to design the bridge. Joe said he should be able to finish the plans within a month. We need to develop a timeline for the project for bids, construction etc. There is the on-going issue of raising the additional money for the bridge. There is some money set aside that may be OK to use for the bridge.
Trail Markers The trail markers are up. They look fine and are doing the job. Two mutt mitt boxes are up. One is empty already – has been empty for a week. We should find a volunteer to keep the boxes full. There is a noticeable improvement already.
Green Grant Board: The board has an aerial view of Wiley Park, storm information etc.
Old Business:
Open Space-
We still do not have a new member. Perhaps Jeff Havlick will think about returning.
Open Space Management Plan-
It is not done. The maps are done. An Americorps worker will be available soon to work on the Open Space Management Plan.
New Business
Loretta Nielson called Judy and asked for our opinion as to the abolishment of the 1651 Advisory Committee. Apparently there may be some frustration with the current process. It was the general opinion that Henry, the Advisory Board and the Friends should hash it out amongst themselves.
1651 Forest
The walk is this weekend. They have three or four volunteers to take groups around the arboretum.
Conservation Commission
Dennis Murley is back on the Conservation Commission. There was a proposal last night to armour the face of a dune with the fiber rolls.
Community Preservation Act Committee
The Cemetery folks have given the CPA Committee a letter with an update of what they have done and spent with their funds. We should think about doing the same – Sue and Glen will put something together for Open Space and get it to the group for their review. The Recreation Committee will be invited to our next meeting to talk about potential future CPA applications.
Next Meeting: October 25, 2006.
Sue moved to adjourn. Glen seconded. APPROVED: unanimously
Adjournment at 8:34 p.m.
Respectfully submitted by,
Laura Freeman
